Introduction to the Painter
Mr. Chen Wuji is one of the most influential Chinese painters. In his
art creation, his outstanding pursue is closely linked with his encyclopedic
art cultivation as well as accumulation of life experience. Apart from
painting, he also dips into poems and ancient texts, music and calligraphy
etc. What's more, he has a wide range of collection of masterpieces
by famous painters of centuries, including those by contemporary painters
like Mr. Zhang Daqian, Mr. Xie Zhiliu, Mrs. Chen Peiqiu etc.
Mr. Chen Wuji was born in Shanghai China in 1963 and
lived in Singapore for over ten years. In his early age, he learned
from Mr. Xie Zhiliu and Mrs. Chen Peiqiu and devoted himself to the
research of art of the Tang and Song Dynasties and that of Mr. Zhang
Daqian. He combines his research with the history of Chinese painting
and Chinese painting theories of centuries. In addition to copying famous
paintings of centuries, studying murals in Dunhuang and formally acknowledging
nature as his master, he has toured famous mountains and rivers, thus
accumulating over 10,000 sketches. Ten years ago he stayed in Singapore
for tours and took in latest things so as to break through artistic
boundaries in area. Years of continuous exploration has yielded remarkable
achievements.
Art Features
Mr.Chen Wuji developed interest in painting at an early age and his
works are dominated by mountains and waters, flowers and birds, covering
the whole 13 families in Chinese paintings and drawings like figures,
running beasts, fish and insects etc. He is expert in all skills and
techniques in a wide range of topics and subjects. In recent years,
based on skills of the Tang and Song Dynasties and techniques of masters,
he has created his own styles which are blended with his perceptive
and interpretation. He has dedicated himself to the mixture of boldness
and delicacy, to the combination of paintings by professionals and those
by scholars, and to the arduous research on paintings from life and
freehand brushwork. More than 30 years of hardships and self-tempered
experiences have made him, after ancient masters, absorb essence from
elegant masterpieces of the Tang and Song Dynasties. He has made years
of unremitting efforts to study the wonderful artistic crafts of painting
in cloth and learn from his respected master Mr. Xie Zhiliu in riotous
color design with grand air in a spirit that may pass on in generations.
He has followed heroic and graceful skills of Mr. Zhang Daqian. Therefore
he has developed his own integral style during over ten years of oversea
life by tempering himself deliberately, which makes his works natural
and lifelike in floating clouds and running water, apparently of his
free will but in principle.
Innovation in techniques and color application
Mr Chen Wuji has been perseveringly engaged in expansion and innovation.
Based on overall heritage and development of tradition, he has put forth
new ideas peculiarly in sprinkling colors and ink splashing, thus infusing
into new vigor and energy. Mr. Shen Zongqian, a theoretician in the
Qing Dynasty once said that sprinkling colors and ink splashing can
present the spirit bearing in the painting, which sounds quite reasonable.
Sprinkling colors and ink splashing are color-design techniques of rich
imagination, that is, the painter, depending on his peculiar interpretation
of art creation and personal perception of philosophy of aesthetic appreciation
as well as considerable energy and capability, sprinkles and splashes
out a rich, strange, colorful, spectacular and changeable scene which
shocks visions and mind, making the viewers deeply touched by a burst
of spiritual inspiration. The painting "spring birds in rain-washed
trees"（61.0X60.2cm in painting paper）, blended with strokes and
freehand brushwork, presents a foreign but marvelous design rich in
modern air, enhancing artistic atmosphere and impression along with
integral effect. The birds in the painting are cute and lively as in
a dream.
Sprinkling colors has come to such a degree that shows the painter's
pursues have reached a spiritual perception beyond only images. It not
only gives full play to the importance attached to shape and color of
natural objects authentically but the wildest boldness beyond common
shape and color, as a result of deeper understanding of art creation.
As in the painting" flowers brooks and clouds around houses"（65.5X49.5cm
in gold foil paper）, vast and fresh blue and green is beautifully merging
in clouds and covering all, broad and free dimly reaching far. Skies
and land are elegantly merging into harmonious one with flowers, trees,
houses naturally hand in hand with remote mountains and brooks, which
is really beyond words.
Auction and collection
For many years at Indonesian Jakarta World Trade Center, Shanghai Art
Museum, Shenzhen Museum, Shanghai Ji Gu Zhai Art Gallery, Hong Kong
Ji Gu Zhai Art Gallery etc. domestic and foreign large organizations,
have respectively held exhibitions for his works for fifteen times.
His works have made over a hundred auction records in domestic and international
auction agencies. Thousands of his works have been collected by numerous
art agencies privately and publicly.
Exhibitions of his works
His masterpieces are authorized to be sold by Xiang Xiang Xuan Gallery
which was officially opened on June 28th 2007. It is located in Art
